Before we get into the uses and benefits of essential oils, I want to remind you, that a little bit of any essential oil goes a long way. A couple drops are all you ever need to reap the amazing benefits of these awesome oils. Also, whenever I talk or write about oils, I am only speaking of Young Living Essential Oils, because I know and trust that they are 100% pure, therapeutic grade. Finally, these statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. The oil is not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease. Always consult a physician if you have any health concerns.

LET’S TALK PEPPERMINT!!

Ahhhh peppermint!!! It is one of the most versatile and refreshing oils to use. It’s main component, menthol, is what gives it that cooling sensation when it touches your skin.

Peppermint can be used in many different ways, and blended with other oils as well (peppermint, lavender and lemon are one of my favorite combos!). The easiest way to get the refreshing, invigorating benefits of peppermint is to simply put a few drops in your diffuser and let the aroma fill the air. It’s clean, light scent is a great pick-me-up on those days you just don’t feel like getting out of bed. It’s a little dreary outside today so I’m diffusing peppermint as I write this to give me that extra boost (and to take away the odor of the eggs I just made for breakfast!)

Placing a drop or two in the palm of your hand and inhaling the fresh scent is another easy way to use peppermint. The cool, minty smell is also helpful in relieving head tension. Dabbing a drop on your temples, behind your ears, or even across your forehead might just be all you need to help take the edge off. Using a carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut oil or Young Living’s V6 Vegetable Oil Complex) mixed with the oil can help dilute it if you have sensitive skin and don’t want to apply it full-strength. I like to fill a 10 ml roller bottle with a carrier oil and add 10-15 drops of peppermint to take on the go.

Athletes also love this essential oil and use it in a variety of ways to help with their daily workout routines. Place a couple drops on a cool, damp washcloth and inhale the aroma, then place it across your forehead to cool off after a vigorous workout or yoga class. Create a small spray bottle filled with water and a couple drops of peppermint and spritz some in your gym bag to take away the musty smell. Or just spritz it across your face and body for a refreshing, cooling effect. It’s great to use as a massage oil as well- just rub it (with or without a carrier oil depending on your preference) into your sore, tired muscles and feel the tingling, cooling sensation relax and relieve the tension after a workout, or any time! And finally, add a drop of Young Living’s Peppermint Vitality to a glass water bottle as it not only tastes great and refreshing, but helps support a healthy digestive system as well!
